Habitat homes are designed to blend with the character of the existing community. Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis builds homes in various styles to accommodate the aesthetics of a given block or area. We build one-story ranch or bungalow style homes, one-and-a-half story homes, and two-story homes. Our homes have a brick-front façade, cement fiber siding façade, or a mixture of both.
Generally speaking, our homes range from approximately 1200 square feet to 1300 square feet in size. Houses have three or four bedrooms and one or two bathrooms. In most cases, our homes also have a full, unfinished basement and either a front driveway with a parking pad or a rear parking pad with alley access. Whatever the house style may ultimately be, Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis staff works closely with community leaders and representatives to formulate a house design and finish that attempts to blend in with the community and helps to protect local character and property values.
In some cases, Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis may also be willing to rehab an existing home or structure to house one or more of its partner families. Decisions on whether to build a new home or rehab an existing structure depend largely on cost considerations and the characteristics of our partner families. When completed, the new homes will be owned by their residents. The properties are not used for rental purposes.
