2012 Build Details

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is excited to be building in five neighborhoods in 2012.

Old North St. Louis

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis will be finishing up the twelve homes that are currently under construction at the intersection of 13th and Clinton Streets in early 2012. There are seven two-story models and five one-story models. All homes are being built to LEED-platinum standards. This will bring the total number of Habitat homes built in Old North St. Louis to 29.

Carondelet

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is very excited to be building our first homes in the Carondelet neighborhood in 2012. Five homes will be built at 1020-1032 Bates Street, just east of Grand Avenue. We have worked with the Carondelet Housing Corporation, Woodward Now, Alderman Villa, the Community Development Administration, the Cultural Resources Office, and the State Historic Preservation Office to create a streetscape and home design for 1020-1032 Bates Street that will complement the existing homes in the Carondelet community. Ground was broken in November 2011. After a little break in the winter, we will be back working on the homes in the spring of 2012. A rendering of the homes is below.

We are currently considering a second phase of homes in Carondelet. Tentative plans consist of approximately 5 homes on sites scattered throughout the neighborhood. Plans for this phase will become more concrete as the year progresses. We hope to break ground in the fall of 2012.

University City

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is very happy to be partnering with University City in our return to St. Louis County. We responded to an RFP from University City for 5 LEED-certified houses on scattered sites in the 6600 blocks of Bartmer and Crest Avenues, just east of Kingsland Avenue. We were selected as developer in August 2011. Since then, we have worked with the City, the community, and U. City architects Lloyd Architects on a house design that complements the surrounding streetscape. A rendering on the design is below. We anticipate breaking ground on this project in May 2012.

2010 Kraft and 2308 Bensonhurst

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is excited to complement its usual slate of new home construction with 2 home rehabilitations in 2012; one in St. Louis City and one in St. Louis County.

2010 Kraft Street is a brick house dating from the early 1900s located in the Dogtown area of St. Louis City. The property also includes a side yard. Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis plans a complete gut rehabilitation of the house which will include adding 2 bedrooms to the basement, a side deck, and energy efficient features that will bring the house up to LEED standards.  Rehabilitation for 2010 Kraft will begin later in 2012.

2308 Bensonhurst Drive is a 3-bedroom frame house in Florissant in north St. Louis County. Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis plans a complete gut rehabilitation of the house which will include adding energy efficient features that will bring the house up to LEED standards.  Rehabilitation for 2308 Bensonhurst began in Winter of 2012.
