Chapter 4: House Plans

The HFHSL Board of Directors establishes the criteria for the size, features, type, arrangement, and cost of the homes to be built in a particular project. Detailed plans are developed by the architects hired by HFHSL as directed by the Staff and the Construction Committee. The house design must conform to the site topography, utilities, sewers, and local government building requirements.

House leaders, crew leaders, and volunteers should develop the ability to read and understand the house plans.  This will save time and require less attention and consultation from the construction staff. Building to the plans will also produce more uniform construction, and will reduce the need for costly and time consuming rework. If you have a question about the plans, or if you have a condition that varies from the plans, check with the staff.
