Materials, Equipment and Appliances

The following is a list of the general, standard features that can be included in the design and construction of Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis's homes.

Interior

  • Interior plumbing - tankless hot water heater (high efficiency) or standard 50 gallon hot water heater, Manibloc system using PEX piping
  • Electrical - 200 amps service
  • Security - doors are switched and windows are prewired
  • HVAC - high efficiency furnace or GEO thermal system
  • Drywall material - 1/2 drywall and 5/8 drywall per plan
  • Drywall hanging/taping - standard 3-coat taping and sanded finish
  • Flooring - 12"x12" ceramic tile in wet areas, wood laminate elsewhere
  • Paint - egg shell on walls and semi gloss on all doors and trim (low VOC)
  • Cabinets - Solid wood frames (light oak) with plastic laminated countertops
  • Interior Doors - Six panel pre-hung doors
  • Millwork - finger-jointed colonial 3" baseboard and 2 ¼" casing (paint grade)
  • Hardware - standard polished brass finish on all knobs
  • Light Fixtures - standard globe lights in bedrooms, chandelier in dining room, and flood and motion lights on exterior (compact florescent bulbs)
  • Smoke and CO detectors
  • Bath hardware - 36"x48" mirror and shower rod and chrome finish on the towel bar, toilet paper holder, and shower rod
  • Energy Star appliances: refrigerator, dishwasher
  • Electric or gas range

Exterior

  • Flatwork - slabs are at min of 4" thick six sack mix
  • Water/sewer - per plan
  • Brick or Nova Brik, with cement fiber siding façade on all other sides
  • Gutters/Downspouts - aluminum gutters
  • Exterior doors - insulated six-panel door with peep hole and DBL Bore

Building Envelope

  • Foundation - precast insulated foundation (R-10)
  • Gravel - 3/4" clean gravel
  • Steel - 15 LBS steel beam or per plan
  • Roofing - 25 Year 3 tab shingle
  • Lumber - 2x6 advanced framing panelized built construction using finger jointed studs for interior walls, sub floor sheathing 3/4", wall 5/8 Osb roof sheathing 7/16"(foil backed)
  • 1" and 2" Blue Board, house wrap, and air sealants - caulk and sealants along with blue board are used to create air tight House
  • Trusses - energy trusses provides higher R-Value
  • Insulation - R-38 in the ceilings and R-28 in the walls along with 1" and 2" Blue Board on the outside (R-10 - 15)
  • Windows - single hung low "E" glass (high efficiency) argon filled
  • Passive Radon system
