It All Starts With A Plan
Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis considers many characteristics and criteria when designing houses for a particular build. Besides incorporating the Habitat for Humanity and Universal Design (AHTF) Criteria along with our own general criteria, we also consider the existing homes in the neighborhood in which we are building for house style and size. The lot size and local building codes will also play a role in developing a house plan.
As we continue to build more homes each year, our house plans are becoming ‘standardized.' This should help us eliminate the learning curve we experience every year that the plans change.
We plan the build process into the design of the house. To continue to improve that process, we take into account feedback from our volunteers, house leaders, crew leaders, LEED Development team members, and Construction Committee members. Our LEED Development team also provides input on materials and techniques used to address unique situations that we find on a particular build site and to aid in meeting the LEED H Criteria.
