One Stop Shop for Leadership Scheduling Information

Attention Habitat construction leaders, are you trying to figure out how to sign up to work on the build site? Crew Leader Trainees, do you need to sign up for build days to start applying all the construction theory you have learned in class?

Then you have come to the right place! All the information that you need to know for scheduling is right here. ALL construction leaders (i.e. house leaders, crew leaders, experienced crew leader trainees (i.e not your first build season), and site safety observers) should sign-up to volunteer with our Volunteer Services Department at constructionleaders@habitatstl.org.

Construction Leaders should arrive by 7am on the build site, sign in at the site support trailer, and then go to the morning construction leadership meeting (which starts at 7am) with Habitat Construction Staff, house leaders, crew leaders, crew leader trainees, task leaders, and site safety observers. During this time, the phase Project Manager will outline the assigned tasks for the day, inform leaders where the necessary materials are located, and answer questions from the house leaders. Immediately following, most house leaders will have a meeting with the crew leaders, crew leader trainee's, site safety observers, and field day participants assigned to them.

Pre-Build

The 2012 Pre-Build Saturdays for Carondelet 1 will start on Saturday, March 17th. We are planning to have 30-45 volunteers on-site each pre-build Saturday. We are looking for 4-6 construction leaders, to lead groups of 5-10 volunteers.

During Pre-Build, volunteers will work on some of the following tasks: framing the 4th bedroom in the basement, installing basement stairs, installing 1st floor sub-floors, wall layout on the floors, and wall panelization. Most tasks will be related to framing and general site set-up, which can also include grading, back filling, and tool trailer set-up for each home.

Pre-Build is a wonderful opportunity for NEW construction leaders to Habitat to "get their hands dirty", before the official build starts!

Pre-Build Saturdays for Carondelet are March 17, March 24, March 31, April 21, and April 28

Pre-Build Saturdays for University City are June 2 and June 9

To sign-up for Pre-Build Saturdays, email constructionleaders@habitatstl.org. Include your first and last name as well as the date you would like to volunteer. Sending your request to be scheduled does not guarantee you will be scheduled. Leaders will be scheduled based on number of volunteers scheduled and available open leadership slots. The Volunteer Services Department will send you a confirmation email stating that you are scheduled once it is finalized.

Construction Leaders are needed throughout the build to lead sponsor groups, non-sponsoring groups, and individuals on the build site. Please look over the build schedule and see what days work for you throughout the build.
Once you have decided on what days you would like to lead, please email constructionleaders@habitatstl.org.
Include your first & last name, phase #, day, & date you would like to volunteer. We will make every effort to fulfill your request, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet every request.

Make sure you check the leadership matrix (in the bi-weekly Construction Leadership Update) to see where you are scheduled.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As our leadership program is growing and ever evolving, we ask you to be patient and flexible. We realize that several of our seasoned leaders may be retiring, deciding to work fewer days in the years to come, volunteering in other capacities, or a host of various things. With that said, in order for our program to continue to flourish, we need for them to share their wisdom, knowledge, skill, and know-how with new leaders. Therefore, you may be asked to lead with someone you have not previously led with or to instruct new leaders throughout the build site. Please accept these requests with open arms and spirit. It is through your leadership that we are able to build in the capacity that we do.

Be sure to check out the Documents page for helpful handouts!
