From: Kent Lytle, Construction Safety Committee To: House Leaders Subject: Fall Protection
Our Fall Protection Plan requires that only trained people are assigned to perform work at elevated locations. Usually our only opportunity to train the volunteers on the elements of our Fall Protection Plan is during the Morning Safety Huddle which takes place prior to beginning the day’s planned work.
We developed some Morning Safety Huddle Topic Sheets that may serve as talking papers during the morning safety discussions. It is our hope that the use of these topic sheets will result in increased focus on the elements of our Fall Protection Plan.
Please select the sheet that applies to the planned work and review its contents during the Morning Safety Huddle. If volunteers arrive at the site after the beginning of the work day, the Site Safety Observer should review the contents of the selected topic sheet when they do arrive so that they can be assigned to work at elevated locations.
If concerns arise about how to apply the elements of the Fall Protection Plan, the HFHSL Construction Staff are aware of the content and intent of this plan and can provide coaching as needed.
If you can suggest any additions to or revisions of these Fall Protection topic sheets you may contact me at 618-255-2640 or via e-mail at klytle@conocophillips.com.
If any injury (or near miss which could have led to an injury) takes place, please conduct a review of the incident as soon as practical and describe the learning from this review on the Incident Review Form provided in the last section of the House Leader’s Safety Manual. The completed Incident Review Forms should be passed on the one of the HFHSL Construction Staff for their review and subsequent discussion at the next Construction Committee Meeting. It is our hope to continue to refine our safety process based on what we learn from our experience during each building season. We appreciate your partnership in the continuous improvement in this safety process and the leadership you demonstrate by starting each work period with a Morning Safety Huddle focused on the safety issues associated with the day’s planned work.
