Habitat for Humanity at St. Louis Mills

As part of St. Louis Mills' November 13 grand opening and The Mills Corporation's corporate sponsorship of Habitat for Humanity, a house will be constructed inside St. Louis Mills. When the house is completed, it will be relocated to a Habitat for Humanity St. Louis location in the Hillsdale area of St. Louis County.

St. Louis Mills is donating over 8,000 square feet of leasable space for eight months to allow the house to be constructed and to provide Habitat for Humanity St. Louis a store-front presence at the mall. The Habitat for Humanity St. Louis space is located between St. Louis Mills entrances number 2 and number 3.

Construction on the house began shortly after St. Louis Mills' grand opening and will be completed by April 2004. Like other Habitat for Humanity St. Louis builds, the St. Louis Mills house build will take approximately 14 weeks. While there will be three to four build dates in November and December 2003, the weekly schedule of volunteer build dates will begin in January 2004. Unlike other builds, where volunteers work on houses on Saturdays, there will be weekend and weekday evening build dates that will enable volunteers more flexibility in contributing to the construction of the St. Louis Mills house.

The Mills Corporation is a corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity International, having committed $1 million over five years beginning in 2003. This money will be used to build affordable housing in markets where Mills has developed or is developing Mills centers. In addition to this financial commitment, Mills will also work with existing Mills centers in other regions to raise funds and spread awareness of Habitat for Humanity through kiosk promotions, airing Public Service Announcements on MillsTV and encouraging retailer involvement in Habitat for Humanity whenever possible.

In announcing the Habitat partnership, Laurence C. Siegel, Chairman and CEO of The Mills Corporation, said, "Being a good corporate citizen has always been a top priority for The Mills Corporation. Partnering with such an inspirational group as Habitat enables us to strengthen and focus our community support." "We are so very grateful to the Mills Corporation for their support of our program this year," said Habitat Executive Director Kimberly McKinney. "This will be the second Habitat house that St. Louis Mills has sponsored here in St. Louis, and we could not be more pleased." Mary B. is the proud and excited homeowner that will help build and eventually will reside in the home with her seven children.

St. Louis Mills is located approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown St. Louis. The center is conveniently accessible from all areas of the region including I-270 and I-70.
