Trivia Night Wish List

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Even if you can’t attend Trivia Night on March 13, check out our wish list of items we need in order to make it all happen! When you generously donate one of the items below, it keeps us from having to buy it, and therefore allows us to make more money at the event. And as always, all the money goes directly into building more homes!

Anything that you would like to donate will be picked up by a volunteer.  Please contact Kelley at 314-352-9051 or Kelkel62@aol.com

Here is the wish list from our Special Events Committee.

  • Donate cases of canned beer (Bud, Bud light, Ultra) that we can resell at the event. We need about 35 cases in total so any amount that you can donate would help out.
  • Donate cases of wine that we can resell.  We generally have Chardonnay and either a Merlot or Cabernet.
  • We offer snacks that we place on the tables for free. We usually ask for a donation of pretzels, popcorn or chips of some sort.  We typically need enough for 50 tables.  Another option would be to purchase a Sam’s or Costco gift card and donate that to us and let us do the work of hauling the bags of snacks.
  • We are attempting to put together a Large Basket of Booze to raffle off.  We could use individual bottles of Specialty alcohol to put in our basket.  Maybe you got a bottle for the holidays of something you don’t drink……Give it to us!
  • We try to give attendance prizes to a majority of the attendees.  Typically we hand out Logo’d items from corporations.  Examples would be company T-shirts, baseball caps, coffee mugs etc.  Anything that you have in quantity around your office and would like to get rid of.
  • We always need canned Soda and Bottled water.

Volunteer in the ReStore, Get a Day at Disney!

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

The ReStore is excited to announce that we are participating in Disney’s “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.” program.  Disney began this program with a goal of inspiring one million people to volunteer a day of service to participating organizations around the nation.  Any individual who volunteers with one of these organizations for a day will be eligible to receive a free ticket to any one park within the Walt Disney World® Resort or the Disneyland® Resort.

The program will run from now until December 15, 2010 or whenever one million tickets have been redeemed.  Volunteers looking to participate in this program through the Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis (HFHSL) ReStore must first pre-register and sign up through Disney’s site.  After registering, individuals will need to schedule a specific volunteer date at the ReStore through HFHSL.  After you have volunteered we will confirm your participation with Disney and you are eligible to pick up your free ticket at any of their parks.

To register with Disney and to volunteer in the ReStore go to the following website: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/disneyparks/en_US/WhatWillYouCelebrate/index?name=Give-A-Day-Get-A-Disney-Day.  After the web page opens, scroll down to the bottom left of the screen and look for the box entitled “Search for an Activity.”  Use the zip code 63108 and search “All” volunteer interest opportunities.  The ReStore will come up in the list of organizations. Click on it for further instructions.

Please Note: Due to the timing of this Disney promotion and current Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis (or HFHSL) volunteer needs, volunteers who work on the build site are not eligible.

Once on Disney’s Website volunteers should read all of their terms and conditions for the program.  If you have any questions or would like to schedule your work date in the ReStore, please contact the resource associate Joshua Palacios at Joshua@habitatstl.org.

Sending Help to Haiti

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Did you know? Every Habitat for Humanity affiliate is required to tithe money back to Habitat for Humanity International for the global effort of addressing housing needs. We have designated $50,000 of our most recent tithe be used for efforts in response to the recent 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti. Already considered the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, 55% of the Haitian population is living on less than $1/day. Habitat for Humanity International’s goal is to help low-income families in need of decent housing because of this disaster with an emergency humanitarian response of shelter kits, clean-up and rehabilitation. We are happy to be able to support that effort! For more information about Habitat for Humanity International’s efforts in Haiti, visit habitat.org.
