Habitat For Humanity and West County Churches

By the end of the year 2002, West County Churches will have completed it’s seventh year of sponsorship with Habitat for Humanity.  The decision was made to try to participate in this worthwhile ministry after Bonhomme Presbyterian Church sponsored a home in 1995.

Bonhomme asked other area Churches to co-sponsor a build the following year.  The three Churches that resoundingly answered the call were: Green Trails Methodist, Manchester Methodist and Salem Methodist of Ladue.  West County Churches is an affiliation between these 4 Churches, who now join together yearly in funding, both financially and physically, to build a house for Habitat for Humanity.  As a team, we enjoy working side-by-side with Habitat to help build God’s Kingdom, one home at a time.

2001 saw a special opportunity for participation.  That year marked the St. Louis Chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s 15th year of building homes for those families in our area that are in need of a hand up – not a hand out.  In honor of this anniversary, Habitat St. Louis hosted a Blitz Build to construct 15 homes in 15 days.  The Blitz Build took place in the Wellston neighborhood. West County Churches committed to building a home during the Blitz Build, in addition to the 20 week “normal” build on another home, last year.
