Joe F. Castagno Construction Leadership Award

The Joe F. Castagno Construction Leadership Award was created to recognize and honor one of the most important elements in our building program - our construction leadership. It is through the unselfish giving of these individuals' time and talents and their endless dedication to the Habitat program that we are able to continue to be successful in providing low-income families a hand up, not a hand out, and in achieving their American Dream of homeownership.

This award is presented once a year. Habitat volunteers, homeowners, and staff are invited to nominate the individual of their choice to receive this award. A committee will review the award nominations and pick an awardee based on leadership skills, site management/mentorship, dedication to the role and organization, and on being an Ambassador for Habitat. The recognition will include:

  • Special award presentation to the awardee at the annual Construction Leadership Kick Off Dinner (or other suitable venue).
  • Recognition in the sponsor listing and on the website.
  • A home sponsorship donation of $5,000 towards the next year's build, along with the ability to influence other tribute donations towards a full house sponsorship (others may give donations in the awardees' honor towards a house sponsorship).
  • Site Signage.

Joe F. Castagno was a man who believed in a basic American value...that through hard work and pulling together, we can improve lives and communities. As a farmer, he was good with his hands, knew how to use tools, and enjoyed the satisfaction of building something tangible. He wanted things built right, a sentiment he instilled in his children. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of working with a group of people. In short, he had much in common with our outstanding construction leaders.
