Building Sustainable Homes

This week we met up with Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis’ Director of Construction, Joshua Smith. He gave us the rundown on Habitat’s dedication to building safe and sustainable homes that homebuyers and their families can be proud of. Along with this goal, Habitat strives to hold high energy efficiency standards, ensuring energy is utilized in the most beneficial way; for example, using high quality materials to ensure cold air stays in during the summer. This is especially helpful during these St. Louis heatwaves!
As Josh explains, there are three main components that Habitat utilizes to achieve these standards: advanced framing techniques, high energy rating materials, and dense, or rigid, foam board**. These elements are designed to maximize the full potential of the appliances we implement within Habitat homes.
