New AmeriCorps Member Joins Team

Jenny grew up in a small town outside of Buffalo, New York. She received her graduate degree in school counseling from Penn State University and has spent the past seven years working mainly in elementary schools.

After five years in Nashville, Tennessee, Jenny recently moved to Belleville, Illinois and started the job hunting process. She came across an AmeriCorps position at a different organization and learned more about the program. Jenny realized that a whole host of organizations needed AmeriCorps members and one position in particular caught her eye.

“I will be serving as a Construction Crew Leader [at Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis]! I’ll mainly be out on site assisting with construction tasks, working with volunteers, and working with the awesome Habitat Saint Louis construction staff!,” Jenny says.

When asked what she is looking forward to most about her new position, Jenny said, “I’m really excited to learn something new since I have zero (!!) construction experience! Maybe that makes me a little crazy but it is refreshing to step into a totally new field and learn from scratch! I’m hoping I’ll be able to build some things for my house by the time I’m done.”

Jenny loves to be outside whether it’s hiking, walking, running or travelling. She has been as far away as Australia and spent a month travelling through Canada over the summer. She is also training for a half marathon!

We think Jenny will fit right in with her adventurous spirit and eagerness to learn a new skill. Welcome Jenny!
